Rubies Tech Foundation, a non-governmental organization with the mission of empowering kids and teenagers with tech education, is organizing a free Python programming training for girls in Lagos. This comes after the organization recently conducted a free online Python training event over two weekends to equip young girls with essential programming skills. This initiative aims to bridge the gender gap in tech and provide a pathway for participants to join a six-month physical tech boot camp in Lagos.
The two online training sessions initially took place between January 26th to February 10th, 2024.
Through virtual sessions, participants delved into the world of Python programming, guided by dedicated mentors committed to fostering inclusivity in tech. The online platform facilitated interactive coding exercises, discussions, and networking opportunities, creating a dynamic learning environment for all attendees.
Despite the virtual setting, the training sessions were engaging and collaborative, with girls from diverse backgrounds coming together to learn and grow. The supportive community fostered by Rubies Tech Foundation encouraged participants to explore their potential and pursue their passion for coding.
As the event concluded, selected participants were offered the chance to advance their skills through a six-month tech boot camp, further solidifying their foundation in Python and preparing them for a career in tech.
In order to make learning more physical and interactive, the organization is making the six-month physical boot camp open to all girls in Lagos interested in coding and robotics to register for the boot camp, which is free. The program is scheduled to take place in May 11th, 2024, and interested participants are required to register at https://bit.ly/girlstechbootcamp24.
The free Python training for teen girls by Rubies Tech Foundation was a signpost to the role of technology in providing equitable and inclusive educational spaces, especially for girls of all ages.
