I Will Like To Use My Tech Knowledge To Solve Educational Problems In Nigeria- Adeeko Emmanuel

Adeeko Emmanuel is our Kid Spotlight for the month of February 2021. He fell in love with coding at the age of 15 to quench his curiosity to know how the website works. He spoke with RubiesTech on his journey, challenges and projects he had been able to complete. Excerpts…

Can we meet you?

My name is Adeeko Emmanuel, a 100 level student in UNIBEN, 18 years old and a web developer

When did you start to code?

I started coding when I was 15 years and that’s 3 years ago

What led you into coding?

I would say curiosity. I have this curiosity to know how websites are being built  and to know how tech works

How many project have you worked on?

I have worked on 3 major projects. I have worked on a library management project, a team project where users come and chat together then I worked on a school management system

As a young person in tech field, do you get support from the tech community?

Yes. I have been able to get support from people around who are into tech and they encourage me and  I have a friend that we work together as a team, his name is Eniola Osabiya

What are the challenges you are facing as a young programmer?

I really don’t really face many challenges except taking up a new programming language. However, the only challenge I face most is electricity. Lack of electricity has been a barrier and it’s not encouraging in the country. Also, age barrier is a problem because there are some opportunities that are not opened to people of specific ages even though they are capable to do it

Did you get your parents support when you started to code?

Yes they supported me, though they didn’t really know much about tech

When did you get your first computer?

A few months after I told my dad at 15 that I want to learn how to code, he got me one

How do you manage school and coding ?

Well, as a medicine student, I go to school 3 times in a week and my spare time I use it judiciously to learn and better myself.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

I see myself bringing up other young tech champ in the industry

Between medicine and programming which one do you prefer?

I prefer programming because it has brighter future

How many programming languages do you know?

I know five programming languages, they are:  HTLM,CSS, JavaScript, PHP and Python

Which one is most challenging to you?

Python is challenging to me because it’s very wide but I’m still pushing myself to get better in it.

What problem is Nigeria facing that you think you can use your tech knowledge to solve?

A lot of things have to be change especially in the area of education. I wish they can make WAEC a CBT exam just like they do in JAMB. Nigeria is still backward in the area of digital education; even in the online classes they are not really equipped for it. A lot of teachers and lecturers are not familiar with tech gadget. I will love to solve the problem in the education sector

Do you have a mentor in the industry?

Yes, I do and his name is Enoch Olisah
