In a remarkable celebration of resilience and determination, 21 young girls graduated from the Girls Tech Bootcamp, marking the culmination of a six-month intensive training program in Python programming and robotics. Organized by the RubiesTech Foundation, the bootcamp aimed to equip girls with cutting-edge tech skills and leadership abilities to break stereotypes and redefine their roles in society.
Speaking at the event, the Chairperson of the ceremony and also board member of RubiesTech Foundation, Mrs. Ifeoma Abidoye, emphasized the transformative potential of empowering girls through education and technology.
“It’s time we prioritize the education and tech inclusion of the girl child,” she said. “Girls have so much to contribute, not just from traditional cooking, but by cooking code to create solutions that transform nations. When we provide them with tech skills, we’re not just shaping their future but equipping them to lead and rewrite societal norms.”
Mrs. Abidoye commended the graduates for their unwavering determination. She revealed that out of 96 registrants, only 26 embarked on the rigorous program, and 21 completed it—a testament to their grit and readiness to excel in the tech space.
Beyond the intensive training, the bootcamp offered the girls exposure to industry leaders and participation in prestigious events, including the Global Leadership Summit, PyCon Conference in Lagos, and PyCon Africa in Ghana.
The graduation ceremony showcased the students’ innovative projects, such as: Snake and Ladder Game by Pamela Fasona, Equation of Motion Simulation by Adedeji Temiloluwa, Online Supermarket Store by Akindele Inioluwa, E-commerce Site by Alabi Ramat, Secure Your Message App by Damilola Ekundayo among others
The girls didn’t just presented their tech projects, they were also able to entertain the attendees and parents with drama and music presentation.
Awards were also presented to deserving students, further celebrating their creativity and hard work.
Mrs. Abidoye called on individuals and organizations to support RubiesTech Foundation’s mission of making tech education accessible to more girls, highlighting its transformative impact on lives and communities.
The founder of RubiesTech Foundation, Miss Afape Ruth, expressed her joy at the success of the bootcamp. “It wasn’t an easy journey,” she said. “Even though the program was free, we enforced discipline to ensure the girls valued the opportunity. Those who adapted and persevered are the ones we’re celebrating today.”
She encouraged parents and guardians to support their children in acquiring tech skills, noting that such skills are invaluable across all professions.
The event was held during the RubiesFest 2024, an annual end of the year program at Rubies Technologies to celebrate staff and members of the organization for their work and resilience towards achieving the organizational goal for the year.
